Look for the Palm Beach County schools superintendent search to start heating up next month, with the public included in the process.
School Board Chairman Frank Barbieri today proposed a series of community meetings for gathering comments as the board works on a new strategic plan for the school system, and sets off to find and hire the next education chief by March 1. The new superintendent will start June 1, succeeding Bill Malone, if everything goes according to plan.
The board is likely going to use a consulting firm to handle the work involved with gathering applications and screening candidates. The Florida School Boards Association could be picked to conduct the search, Barbieri said.
These are the proposed community meetings concerning the strategic plan, as outlined in a news release. Helping to facilitate the process is consulting firm Collins Center for Public Policy:
Tuesday Morning, Sept. 13 – Meeting with EXTERNAL PARTNERS GROUP 1, School Board and Tim Center of the Collins Institute for input on strategic plan.
EXTERNAL PARTNERS GROUP 1 includes: Coalition of Black Student Achievement, Urban League, Aspira, Hispanic Human Resource Council, Haitian Community Council, Guatemalan Mayan Center, NAACP, Coalition for Independent Living Studies, ESE Coalition, and other groups that may be selected by the board.
Tuesday Afternoon, Sept. 13 – Meeting with School District Administrators and Supervisors, with School Board and Tim Center of the Collins Institute. (At this meeting, the Board would gather input on not only the strategic plan but also the superintendent search to alleviate the need for a second meeting with the Administrators and Supervisors in October for input on the superintendent’s search).
Tuesday Evening, Sept. 13 – Meeting with INTERNAL PARTNERS (e.g., teachers, ass’t principals and other administrators who don’t attend the superintendent’s Administrators and Supervisors meetings, non-instructional personnel, representatives of our employee groups – bus drivers, clerical, food service, maintenance workers, etc.), with School Board and Tim Center for input on strategic plan. This meeting would also be open to EXTERNAL PARTNERS who may not be able to make the daytime meetings and all other members of the public. All of the meetings will be open to the public.
Wednesday Morning, Sept. 14 – Meeting with EXTERNAL PARTNERS GROUP 2, the School Board and Tim Center for input on strategic plan.
EXTERNAL PARTNERS GROUP 2 includes: Business Development Board, Economic Council, Business Forum, Education Commission, representatives of the various committees that serve as advisory committees to the District or the Board, and other groups that may be selected by the Board.
Wednesday Early Afternoon, Sept. 14 – Meeting with EXTERNAL PARTNERS GROUP 3, the School Board and Tim Center for input on strategic plan.
EXTERNAL PARTNERS GROUP 3: Children Services Council, Criminal Justice Commission, representatives from League of Cities, mayors and other municipal officials, Chambers of Commerce, County Council of PTAs, School PTAs, PTOs and SACs, and other groups that may be selected by the Board.
The proposed stakeholder meetings to gather community input for the superintendent search , all to be held in October (Both Internal and External Partners would be invited) are as follows:
Monday, October 3 – Evening Meeting at Palm Beach Gardens High School or Dwyer High with School Board and Facilitator for community input.
Tuesday, October 4 – Evening Meeting at Atlantic High School with School Board and Facilitator for community input.
Wednesday, October 5 – Evening Meeting at Lake Worth High School with School Board and Facilitator for community input.
Thursday, October 6 – Evening Meeting at Glades Central High School with School Board and Facilitator for community input.
Other potential evening meetings on dates to be determined at Park Vista and Palm Beach Central High Schools.
