Did Broward students miss school on Jan. 2?

Broward Schools were back in session Monday, a day that many workers had off because the New Year’s holiday fell on a Sunday this year.

Columnist Michael Mayo speculated last week that this would result in a lot of students missing school. I’ve asked Nadine Drew, a district spokeswoman, to find out what the absentee rate was Monday compared to last year.

Last year, school started on Jan. 3, also a Monday. New Year’s Day was Saturday and a lot of people had the Friday off.

Parents: What did you see Monday? Did you keep your children home? Did you notice fewer students in the schools? Did the schedule create a problem for your family?
