Educators with the Broward Teachers Union will launch a program on Wednesday that will give 2,200 free brand new books to students at three elementary schools.
The free books will be given to students at North Fork Elementary, Rock Island Elementary and Sunland Park Elementary, all in Fort Lauderdale. The books are thanks to a grant from the American Federation of Teachers, Broward Teachers Union and First Book, a national non profit that distributes books to children across the country.
The goal is to expand the partnership to include more schools in Broward County, union officials say.
BTU administrator John Tarka will distribute the books at 8:20 a.m. at Rock Island Elementary, 2350 Northwest 19th Street in Fort Lauderdale and at 10:00 a.m. at North Fork Elementary School, 101 Northwest 15th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.
